  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.

Job summary Want to help build the future? How about the software that powers Amazon's increasingly automation-driven Fulfillment Centers? Automation and solving complex optimization problems are central to our strategy to scale efficiently. We need a Software Development Engineer to help us expand a core team at the very heart of Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT): the Space3RC (Space Cube Replenishment and Consolidation) team. As a software developer on the team, you’ll own and help drive the technical and architectural vision for a platform enabling efficient utilization of space within our fulfillment centers. Who are we? The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) group builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. Space3RC is a group within AFT which builds and maintains core software and services in Amazon Fulfillment Centers. This software will solve complex space optimization problems, emphasizing efficient utilization of space within our Fulfillment centers by influencing inventory placement decisions, via a hands of the wheel automation. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to own and drive automated solutions for complex space optimization problems. You will work closely with our customers to clarifying requirements and drive execution from design, through implementation to launch. You will work on distributed systems, operating at amazon’s scale which are central to our strategy for scaling efficiently.
  • Solid expertise in data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with building distributed systems
  • Experience in optimization mathematics (linear programming, nonlinear optimization)
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch
  • Passionate about quality, operational excellence, and driving optimal customer experience
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
